ROUNDUP: RC girls soccer secures SAL title; boys hoops clinch TVL crown

Ripon Christian’s girls soccer team took care of business in its regular-season home finale on Friday, routing Le Grand 4-0 to clinch its second consecutive outright title in the Southern Athletic League.

The Knights (10-0-2 SAL, 17-4-3 overall) travel to Le Grand (2-7-1, 4-10-1) next Monday to end the regular season.

Freshman Addison DeJong scored twice in the first half Friday, giving her 18 goals for the season. Senior captain Annalies Vander Meulen opened scoring with a left-footed blast. Trinity Gonzales capped scoring in the second half with her first varsity tally.

Dayna Koolhaas, Helia Vander Meulen, Katie Van Unen and Maya DeJong each contributed an assist.

 

Ripon Christian 61, Riverbank 48

The Knights (10-0, 18-6 overall) have repeated as Trans-Valley League champions after guaranteeing at least a share of the crown with their 11th straight victory. They can claim it outright Wednesday with a win over visiting rival Ripon.

Griffin de Abreu anchored Ripon Christian with 30 points and 14 rebounds, hitting eight 3s in the process. Eli Terpsma added 11 points and four assists. The Knights outscored Riverbank (3-7, 9-16) 30-6 in the second and third quarters combined.

Riverbank’s Diego Felix drilled five 3-pointers — four in the first quarter — and finished with 20 points.

Alexa Zuniga paced the Lancers with 13 points. Destany Vallejo, Ariana Exiga and Jatziry Garcia contributed six apiece.
