Ripon Christian’s boys golf team ended its one-season run in the Valley Oak League with only one loss, defeating Sierra 183-236 Wednesday at Jack Tone Golf Course.

The reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI champion from the Southern Athletic League faced competition from much larger schools this spring, joining Ripon and Escalon of the Trans-Valley League in the VOL. While there aren’t any titles awarded during this pandemic-shortened sports year, the Knights can at least take pride in splitting the VOL’s top spot with 2019 league champion Oakdale.

Dylan Koolhaas was low medalist in the season finale with a 1-over 32, two strokes ahead of Knights teammate Camdan Indelicato and Sierra’s Zach Van Zwaluwenburg.

Roger Postmus contributed a 37 for Ripon Christian. Reed Van der Hoek and Alex Sonke each scored a 40.

For Sierra, Jimmy Thai turned in a 44 and was followed by James Musquiz (51), Dominik Urteaga (53) and Aiden Hillard (54).

BOYS GOLF

Ripon 186, East Union DQ

Only four strokes separated the Indians’ No. 1 and 5 scorers at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Jacob Baird led the way with a 35, Gage Anderson a 36, Jeremie Little a 37 and Kenneth Johnson and Evan McKeon a 39 apiece. Ripon finished 10-4 and in third place in the VOL.

Tony Agueda and Jaden Lopez were the lone representatives for East Union, carding a 46 and 48, respectively.

Escalon 233, Manteca 275

Karson Condit ended 13-over 49 in the Buffaloes’ season finale at Manteca Park Golf Course.

He was backed by Connor DePrater (52), Zenon Garay (53), Ezekiel Segura (53) and Andrew Robison (68).

Escalon’s Kaden Schrotenboer produced the low score of 41. Bryce McKenzie contributed a 44, and T.J. McNeil a 45.

BASEBALL

Manteca 9, Ripon 8

The Buffaloes (11-7 VOL, 11-8 overall) escaped with the win, fending off a furious late charge from host Ripon (4-14, 8-16) which rallied for all eight of its runs in the final two innings.

Manteca did most of its damage in the fourth and fifth innings, scratching across four in each to give starting pitcher Zach Todd the win. Todd racked up five strikeouts and gave up just four hits and a walk in five scoreless innings.

Freshman Rex Watson drove in three runs, while Mikey Elder and Carson Smith both contributed two hits and two runs to lead the offense. Joaquin Gurrola went 2 for 3 with a run.

Manteca faces top-seeded East Union next Tuesday in the VOL’s postseason tournament.

Kimball 3, Ripon Christian 2

Ripon Christian (9-9 VOL, 11-9 overall) had a three-game winning streak snapped in its regular-season finale, allowing the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Knights had a strong outing from freshman pitcher Dustin Hoekstra, who scattered five hits, walked one and struck out seven in six innings. He yielded two unearned runs in the sixth.

Eli Terpsma (2 for 3) knocked in Jacob Kowes and was driven home by Grant Sonke during the Knights’ two-run fourth inning.

Ripon Christian fared well against Kimball this week, splitting the series after blasting its way to a 10-0 five-inning win Monday. Senior Will Gilbert twirled a mercy-shortened one-hitter, striking out three while facing two batters over the minimum.

Sonke, a freshman, went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Joseph DeBruyn finished 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs.

BOYS SOCCER

East Union 4, Manteca 1

The Lancers (10-1-1, 12-1-1) finish in a first-place tie with Oakdale.

Giovanni Perez led them with two goals and an assist in the season finale at Manteca. Chris Avila dished out a pair of assists. Miguel Martin and Corwin Snyder added one goal each. Samuel Diaz notched an assist.

Sierra 2, Weston Ranch 1

Sophomore Paul Pimentel’s brace propelled the host Timberwolves (6-6-2 VOL) to victory. He was aided by Adrian Ramirez and Fidel Reyes, who each had an assist.

JV BASEBALL

Central Catholic 8, Oakdale 2

Central’s upset win allows East Union to move into a first-place tie with Oakdale on the final day of the season.

East Union wrapped up its schedule with two series sweeps last week, beating Sierra and Ripon.
