ROUNDUP: Ripon Christian volleyball stuns Sonora on road

Ripon Christian wrapped up the first half of its Trans Valley League girls volleyball with one of its best efforts of the season, knocking off highly-ranked Sonora on the road on Tuesday, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 14-25, 15-9.

The host Wildcats (4-2 TVL, 13-2 overall) lost to first-place Ripon in their previous outing after winning 13 straight matches to start the season. They came into the match with Ripon Christian (4-2, 12-7) ranked No. 8 in the Sac-Joaquin Section, according to MaxPreps ratings.

Paige Van Hofwegan keyed the win with her strong play at the net and the back row, accumulating 17 kills and 17 digs.

Setter Alanna Blanco also notched a double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs. Brynn Bohn contributed six blocks, and Haley Kootstra served four aces.

The Knights host Hilmar on Thursday.

 

Manteca 3, Patterson 0

Manteca (6-1, 9-6 overall) bounced back from its first Valley Oak League defeat of the season, taming the winless Tigers at home, 25-22, 25-8, 25-10.

Talia Shellbourne led the Buffaloes attack with 15 kills, while Saniyah Anthony added 11 kills and three aces. Trinity Todd chipped in seven kills

Ariceli McBroom contributed five kills four digs, 16 service points and five aces. Peyton McDonald pitched in 15 service points, four aces and seven digs.

Gracey Green handed out 15 assists to go with two kills and five digs.

 

Mountain House 3, East Union 0

The Lancers (1-6 VOL, 6-17 overall) came up short at Mountain House (5-2, 10-3), 20-25, 16-25, 19-25.

Lily Grove led them with 10 service points, four aces, five assists and two kills. Isabella Martinez came up wtih five blocks and three kills. Jocelyn Pena produced nine digs in the back row. Lucija Dayeh contributed five service points, three assists and two digs.

 

FLAG FOOTBALL

East Union 24, Oakdale 6

Dual-threat quarterback Julianna Gaspar had her way with the visiting Mustangs (2-3 VOL, 4-6 overall), burning them for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-30 passes while adding 123 more yards and a touchdown on eight rushes.

Caliyah Lopez scored two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing, while reeling in four catches for 55 yards. She also aided the defense with seven tackles. Ava Barrera had a receiving touchdown.

Vanessa Velazquez highlighted the defense with five sacks, and Makayla Burlingame racked up four.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 160, Sonora 202

Cameron Seefeldt fired a 4-under 35 to pace the Indians at Ripon Golf Course.

She was backed by Cailyn Young (40), Brynn Daley (41) and Grace Ortmann (44).

Natalee Dean led Sonora with a 46.

 

East Union 254, Mountain House 328

The Lancers improved to 5-0 in VOL dual matches (7-0 overall) with their lopsided win at Manteca Park Golf Course.

Jessica Ingalls carded a 5-over 41 for East Union, and Arianna Pale produced a 44. Kaydance Herbert (52) and Alizae Farias (55) were the Lancers other scoring contributors.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Manteca 8, Patterson 1

Nos. 1 and 2 players Hailie Kim and Shreya Raman set the tone for Manteca (6-1 VOL, 11-4-1 overall) with their commanding 6-0, 6-0 win.

Saihaj Ghuman took the No. 3 singles match won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. No. 4 Paisley Coenenerg held off Angel Mulumba, 6-2, 6-2. Rae Limbago cruised at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. Ekum Ghuman won the first set at No. 6 singles 6-0 before her opponent retired.

The doubles matches were far more competitive.

Alyson Alvarado and Giselle Rivera Garcia repelled Lilliana Barajas and Vanessa Velazquez 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. The second tandem of Delailah Sanchez Torres and Zoey Pratt held off Haley Dang and Miranda Marron, 6-4, 7-6 (1).

 

JV girls volleyball

East Union 2, Mountain House 1

After knotting the set score with a hard-earned win in game 2, East Union dominated the finale for the 17-25, 26-24, 15-4 road win.

Emily Pires anchored the attack with 14 assists and four kills.

Camilla Romero hammered out five kills, Lola Alvarez picked up nine digs and Melanie Salazar added four kills.

 

JV flag football

East Union 28, Oakdale 0

Evelyn Ruelas recorded five tackles and three sacks, while Abigail Guevara reeled in to interceptions in the Lancers’ shutout victory.

Amirah Harrington lifted the offense with three touchdown passes and one rushing. She also had a hand in EU’s four converted tries.

Makenzie Dishman was on the receiving end on two TD and secured an interception on defense. Alyssa De Los Santos chipped in a TD reception.

 

Frosh girls volleyball

East Union 2 Mountain House 0

The Lancers escaped Mountain House with the 30-28, 16-25, 15-12 VOL win.

Janelle Lopez paced the offense with five kills and two aces. Addie Souza added three kills and eight digs. Teah Galvez tallied six digs and three aces. Setter Arianna Mercado had six assists.
