ROUNDUP: Ripon girls track, Ripon boys golf place 2nd at invitationals

The Ripon High track and field team is off and running after a strong effort in the 13th annual Dean Andreessen Classic held this past Saturday at Golden Valley’s Veterans Stadium.

The Indians’ varsity girls finished as runners-up with 76 points behind Turlock (136), the varsity boys took third, frosh-soph boys second and frosh-soph girls sixth. Sierra and Lathrop also participated in the season-opening meet.

Distance specialist Annie Wild was among Ripon’s top varsity girls performers, finishing third in the 1,600-meter run, sixth in the 3,200 and first in the 4x400 relay (4:28.00). Jenna Skavdahl took fifth in both the 800 and 1,600 and joined Wild on the mile relay along with freshmen Starla Skiles and Rylee Agbayani.

Freshman sprinter Olivia Maragos was fourth in the 100, fifth in the 200, fourth in the long jump and second in the 4x100 relay with Rylee Agbayani, Makenna Pokorny and Maragos. Gabby Delgado won the shot put with a toss of 32 feet, 1 second.

Omar Alsaidi stood out for the varsity boys, winning the 3,200 in 10 minutes, 2.06 seconds. He was also fourth in the mile and was part of the winning 4x400 relay (3:45.35).

Anthony Sausedo took first in the 300-meter hurdles (41.84) and fifth in the 110. He was featured on the winning 4x100 with Jack Manning, Norberto Quintero and Jaden Hamilton and was also on the winning 4x400 with Devin Fitzpatrick, Eric Guevara and Alsaidi.

Manning took fourth in the triple jump, while Quintero was third in the 200.

Dylan Burkett highlighted Sierra’s boys with a third-place finish in the 400, and Shomari McKnight took fifth in the discus.

Lathrop hurdler Adonis Siga placed second and fourth in the 300 and 110, respectively. Fellow Spartan LaNicia Ellis took third in the girls 200 and fifth in the high jump. Alaba Olaleye was sixth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the triple jump. Both were included in the 4x100 relay with Sarayah Chavez and Renaissance Urbina-Thierry, taking fourth.

Highlighting area athletes at the frosh-soph level are first-place finishers Logan Trickey (boys 3,200) and Mallory Govia (girls 3,200), both of Ripon, and Sierra’s Alexandra Chapman (girls triple jump).

 

BOYS GOLF

Yellowjacket Invitational

Ripon and Ripon Christian more than held their own against large-school opponents Monday at Turlock Golf & Country Club, placing second and third, respectively, out of 19.

Golden Valley, paced by low medalist Braden Castleton’s 4-under 68, won the title with a four-man score of 296. Ripon followed with a 311, and Ripon Christian with a 327.

Ripon’s Jacob Baird turned in the sixth best individual score with a 75. He was backed by Trent Vink’s 76, Chad Flory’s 77 and Jeremie Little’s 83.

Camden Indelicato and Wyatt Hayes each carded a 77 for Ripon Christian. Cade Van Groningen contributed with an 85, and Ethan Schenk scored an 88.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0

The Spartans (1-0, 4-0 overall) began Western Athletic Conference play in Los Banos, steamrolling to a 25-23, 25-8, 25-7 victory.

Christian Green accumulated 11 kills and six aces, and Arman John added nine kills, two aces and four digs. Setter Tory Sumbler finished with 25 assists and four digs. Jerico Santillan added six kills and two blocks. Libero Diego Sanchez led the defensive effort with eight digs.

 

JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 0

Charles Reyes collected five aces, four digs and three assists to help Lathrop sweep, 25-19, 25-14.

Alexander Vere chipped in with three aces and two kills. Brandon Sanchez had seven digs.
