ROUNDUP: Ripon rallies past Patterson in OT for 1st win

Ripon’s boys basketball team started on a 9-0 run Wednesday at Patterson and held on to notch their first win of the season 58-54 in overtime.

The host Tigers (0-2) trailed by as much as 11 in the second half but rallied to force overtime thanks to Troyce Harrison’s late bucket. They took their first and only lead of the game at 51-50 during the extra period, but it was all Ripon (1-4) from there.

Marcus Madoski scored five straight points for the Indians, and Logan Lefebvre put it away with two free throws in the final seconds.

Madoski finished with a game-high 22 points. Gino Calderera added 13 points, and Tanner Hickman had eight, all in the second quarter.

Jace Johnson and Justice Goins paced Patterson with 18 and 16 points, respectively.


GIRLS SOCCER

Manteca 2, Summerville 1

Playing its third game in as many days, Manteca (2-1) bounced back from a 3-1 road loss at Galt.

The Buffaloes never trailed against Summerville at Woodward Park.

Paisley Coenenberg drilled a shot from outside the box and scored for the first goal midway through the first half. Layla Flannigan doubled the advantage in the second half, finishing a 1-on-1 opportunity.

The Bears (1-1) countered with a long-distance goal late in the second half. Freshman goalie Rosilinda Gonzales tallied three saves for Manteca.

Manteca’s busy post-Thanksgiving schedule resumes Friday and Saturday with road games at Half Mood Bay and Oceana.


Ripon Christian 0, Calaveras 0

The Knights (2-0-1) dominated the run of play in San Andreas but could not muster a goal despite a 15-1 shot advantage.

Calaveras (2-1-1) fended off the visitors’ high press in the final minutes to preserve the tie.


BOYS SOCCER

Ripon Christian 5, Gustine 4

The Knights’ shutout streak ended, but they improved to 3-0 after holding off their former Southern League rival.

Ripon Christian twice led by three goals before a red-card ejection helped host Gustine (0-1) make things interesting with two late goals.

Freshman Collin LeCain had a first-half brace, as the Knights staked a 4-1 halftime lead. Ben Miller and Noah DeBruyn also scored. Aaron Van Hofwegen added what ended up being a needed insurance goal with a long-range free kick in the second half.

Ripon Christian begins its annual Jerry Terpsma Classic on Friday.


Lathrop 2, Weston Ranch 2

The Spartans (1-0-1) were seconds away from downing the reigning San Joaquin Athletic Association champion.

Weston Ranch (1-1-1) knocked in the equalizer after Lathrop’s goalie deflected a shot off the frame. Lathrop led in the 77th minute when Eduardo Torres headed in Andres Garcia’s corner kick.

Juan Diego Morales scored the Spartans’ first goal on an assist from Alan Hernandez.

The junior varsity game also ended in a draw, 1-1.


JV boys soccer

Ripon Christian 1, Gustine 1

Derek Meester accounted for the Knights’ lone goal in the non-league draw, while keeper Wesley Vander Woude racked up eight saves.
