ROUNDUP: Sierra boys, Manteca’s Jones lead local harriers at VOL meet

Sierra’s boys cross country team finished as the runner-up in the second Valley Oak League meet of the season Wednesday at Mistlin Sports Complex, while Manteca standout Sienna Jones took fourth individually in the girls race.

It was otherwise an Oakdale-dominated meet, as the Mustangs won both. It was familiar territory for Oakdale newcomer Omar Alsaidi, who transferred from Ripon. He finished the 5,000-meter race first in 18 minutes, 2.8 seconds, as the Mustangs claimed the first eight spots.

Tristan Crowe led Sierra with a 10th-place finish in 18:33.2. Ernesto Pacheco (12th, 18:47.7) and Brendan Alson (14th, 19:07.5) also sneaked into the top 15.

Sienna clocked a time of 22:14.3 in the girls competition. Oakdale’s Kassidy Fmura was the winner in 20:53.2.

Other local standouts were Sierra’s Kiana Kutch (eighth, 22:59.1), Manteca’s Jordyn Hegarty (ninth, 23:02), Sierra’s Mikayla Bueno (10th, 23:04.5), East Union’s April Duarte (11th, 23:05.6) and Sierra’s Marissa Gonzalez (14th, 23:48.9).

Haley Hill won the 2-mile frosh-soph girls race in 15:57.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Beyer 214, Lathrop 279, Ceres forfeit

Freshman Kate Albisu led Lathrop with a 52 in the Western Athletic Conference dual match Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Golf Course.

Sanah Sunner and Morgan Penko each contributed a 53. Mya Grisham (59) and Tiara Patel (62) rounded out team scoring.

 

Beyer 205, Ceres 225, Lathrop 266

The Spartans returned to St. Stanislaus on Wednesday and had improvements to their scorecards.

Grisham led the way with a 47. Sunner had a 50, Sara Sardar a 53,, Yadira Hernandez a 56 and Mia Jenkins a 60.
