ROUNDUP: Sierra girls soccer edges Kimball to improve postseason chances

Sierra’s girls soccer team earned an important Valley Oak League win Monday, holding off Kimball at home, 3-2.

The Timberwolves (3-2-3 VOL, 13-5-6 overall) are a step closer to clinching one of four Sac-Joaquin Section playoff bids. They can do so Wednesday with a win at East Union.

Against Kimball (3-3-2, 7-10-2), Sierra took a two-goal lead into halftime. Payton Abrew, Hailey Cruz and Lindsey Rose each scored a goal. Leslie Reyes had two assists, and Rose added one.

The T’wolves fired 20 shots, 10 on goal. Goalie Zoe Sandoval finished with six saves.

 

Manteca 3, Central Catholic 0

The Buffaloes (5-1-2 VOL, 20-1-3 overall) took care of business as they pull to within reach of the league championship.

Joanna Roa converted on a penalty kick, Alexia Alva doubled the lead off an assist from Sienna Jones and Serenity Cerritos iced it by scoring on a corner kick.

Haylie Brasil recorded four saves. Manteca had a 17-4 shot advantage. The Buffs also won the JV game, 1-0.

Ivy Sutton’s hat trick led the charge. Mikayla Mercier scored twice, and Kylee Pimentel had a goal and two assists.

Mikaela Delgado and Peyton Duarte each contributed one goal and one assist. Haylee Zeiher and Shayla Cline had an assist apiece.

Jedah Haywood paced East Union (16-3) with 18 points in the VOL game this past Saturday.
