ROUNDUP: Sierra takes care of Oakdale in boys hoops win

Sierra’s boys basketball team splashed down eight 3-pointers in its 50-39 Valley Oak League home win over Oakdale on Friday.

The Timberwolves (3-2, 13-8 overall) were led by Anthony Grady’s 15 points, and Emil Esperanza had 10 points and made two of those 3-pointers.

Lucas Garcia, Tim Sarginson and Josh Seals contributed eight points apiece.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Waterford 3, Ripon Christian 2

The Knights (2-4-2, 5-10-3) had a strong showing on the road but did not put away enough of their chances in the Southern Athletic League match.

Waterford (5-3-1, 10-7-1) led 3-0 before Ripon Christian finally found the back of the net, as Noah DeBruyn scored off an assist from Danny Lambdin in the 58th minute. Aaron Van Hofwegan cut into the deficit with a goal in the 62nd minute.

David Koolhaas came up with five saves.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Sierra 4, Central Catholic 1

Leslie Reyes scored two goals, and Payton Abrew racked up three assists as the Timberwolves (2-1-2, 12-4-5) came away from Modesto with the VOL win.

Hailey Cruz, Emma Dunham and Lindsey Rose each had a goal.

Freshman goalie Zoe Sandoval had two saves.

 

JV boys basketball

Sierra 46 Oakdale 42
Cody Camarena made five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 16 points for the Timberwolves (4-2 VOL, 16-6 overall).

Julian Ruiz pitched in 10 points, A.J. Chapman had eight and Colby Vueve added seven.

 

JV girls soccer

Sierra 8, River Islands 0

Kaylee Rodriguez fired a hat trick, and Haylee Zeiher had a brace in the blowout.

Ivy Sutton, Shayla Cline and Peyton Duarte each had one goal and two assists. Mikaela Delgado had an assist.

 

Frosh boys basketball

Sierra 52 Oakdale 51
C.J. Simas scored the game-winning basket for Sierra (4-2 VOL, 12-7 overall) with 4 seconds remaining, capping a wild come-from-behind victory.

The Timberwolves trailed 51-26 after three quarters but shut out the Mustangs for the entire fourth.

Simas spearheaded the comeback, scoring eight of his 13 points in the fourth period while making seven of nine free throws.

Karanbir Bhandal registered 11 points, and Isaac Kempf had eight. PJ Singh nailed two key 3s in the fourth quarter, and Aiden Aguilar added a three-point play.
