GUSTINE — Ripon Christian rebounded in the second half with 21-unanswered points to come from behind and defeat host Gustine 24-7 in Southern League action.

Grant Sonke had an all-around standout game for the Knights (3-2 SL, 6-3 overall). He gave Ripon Christian an early 3-0 lead on a 25-yard field goal and capped the evening’s scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He ran for 91 yards on 14 carries and made six tackles.

Defense took over for the Knights in the third quarter with Dustin Hoekstra (four tackles) returning a blocked punt seven yards for a touchdown and Micah De Jong returning an interception 25 yards for a score. Jay Hoekstra returned made seven tackles and recovered a fumble.

Ripon Christian totaled 203 yards of offense — all rushing — with De Jong adding 58 yards on 11 carries. Cade Gemmell had a 67-yard kickoff return for the Knights in the first period only for Ripon Christian to turn the ball over on downs inside its 10-yard line.

Giovanni Quezeda gave the Reds (3-3, 3-5) a 7-3 lead in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run.

Oakdale 62, Weston Ranch 0

Turnovers killed any good drives for the host Cougars in their Valley Oak League finale.

Namir Brown-Sanger played well at quarterback for Weston Ranch (0-6, 1-9 VOL) with nearly 80 yards of rushing, but the injuries sustained over the last couple of games for the Cougars were evident in what Weston Ranch could put together.

“The team never gave up and played until the last play,” Weston ranch coach Ron Wayman said. “This year has not shown us the wins that we wanted but it showed the fight that this team has and the possibilities of where we will be in the future.

“I am proud of each player, the coaches, Cougar Nation and the community for embracing us and supporting us.”

Los Banos 35, Lathrop 14

The visiting Spartans scored a first-quarter touchdown on a 1-yard run by Jeremiah Estante for a 7-0 lead, but that was the only lead they would have in the Western Athletic Conference contest.

Eduardo Reynoso added another 1-yard score for Lathrop (4-2 WAC, 6-3 overall) in the third quarter. Roma Giordano was the workhorse for the Spartans with 138 yards on 21 carries while Noah Martinez added 32 yards on six carries. Estante was 6 of 8 passing for 77 yards and picked up 24 yards on nine carries.
