Mitchell Van Zwaluwenburg amassed 10 goals Wednesday, helping the Sierra boys water polo team sneak past host West of Tracy 13-12 in double overtime.
Van Zwaluwenburg made the game-winner with 39 seconds left in the Timberwolves’ non-league season opener. He also netted an important equalizer late in the first overtime period after West had scored about 30 seconds earlier.
Coach Dave Breitenbucher lauded the effort on defense, which held the Wolf Pack to just two goals in the fourth quarter and OT combined. Others contributing goals with one apiece for Sierra were Moises Alvarado, Erfan Ballen and Zach Walmer.
