Rounsville shines as EU beats Buffs

East Union sophomore Nick Rounsville missed an eagle putt and left a couple of birdies short during Thursday’s 205-235 Valley Oak League victory over Manteca at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

Rounsville was the medalist and carded a 1-under 36 for East Union (11-3) despite missing a birdie that he had to tap in for par on the fourth hole and then missing the eagle on the 340-yard, par-5 seventh.

Brandon Ramirez shot the Manteca second-best score with a 1-over 38, respectively.

East Union’s Ryan Lee, Mike Lozano and Trevor Baum all carded 42s, while Eric Lewis rounded out the Lancers’ total with a 43.

After Ramirez, Manteca’s Justin Morrish finished with a 42, Gus LaDue shot a 45 and Ray Gallardo made up the final with a 52. Both squads’ next competition will be the VOL Tournament at Micke Grove in Lodi April 28.

Lathrop 245,
Weston Ranch 274

Matt Fallon of the Spartans (2-12) shot a personal-best 43 over the winless Cougars, who were led by Frank Thao’s 47 at the French Camp Golf Course. Lathrop’s Geoff Fallon carded a 45 and Sam Fallon 48. Nick Berndt shot 52 and Robert Berndt and Andrew Munoz shot 57s, but one had to be thrown away. The rest of the Cougars’ scorers were Daron Carillo (53), Javier Gomez (54), Jimmy Sechon (55) and Harkirat Saini (65).

Trans Valley League

Ripon 220, Hilmar 259

Nick Sharpe got the best of the TVL’s top golfer of Hilmar, Landon Azevedo (41), by carding a 1-over 36 at the Spring Creek Golf & Country Club. Sharpe recovered to shoot 1-under on the final eight holes after double bogeying the first hole by going out of bounds off the tee. Kole Gonzales tallied 44, Robbie Figeroid 46 and Nathan Suender and Anthony Matthews 47s. Ripon improved to 11-0 and finishes the season Tuesday at second-place Escalon.

The Knights (9-1) had three players shoot 3-over 39s and tie for medalist honors at Stevenson Ranch. Ripon Christian improved to 9-1 and got redemption against the Eagles (9-1), who were led by Logan Ludquist’s 41 team-low 41. Kyle Colyn, Andrew Manes and Jesse DeRousee shot the 39s, while Austin Alger (44) and Vance Sipma (51) rounded out the Knights’ total.
