Sac-Joaquin Section spring sports season gets underway today

Spring has officially sprung in the Sac-Joaquin Section.
The regular season for spring sports begins today while winter sports basketball, soccer and wrestling near the end.
Reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV softball champion Ripon starts its march to a repeat against visiting Downey at 3:30 p.m. Meanwhile, East Union gets its first hacks in under the lights at Stagg starting at 6. Manteca is also on the road against Pacheco, while Weston Ranch and Lathrop are hosting Chavez and Millennium, respectively.
Defending Valley Oak League baseball champion Sierra gets tested out the gate against Trans-Valley League titlist Livingston on the road. Another notable opener pits visiting Manteca with Atwater in a rematch of their Sac-Joaquin Section Division III second-round playoff game won by Atwater, 2-1.
East Union is the lone baseball team hosting a game, as Golden Valley visits. Weston Ranch heads to El Capitan, Ripon to Patterson and Ripon Christian to Argonaut.
East Union (at El Capitan), Sierra (vs. Lincoln) and VOL champion Weston Ranch (vs. McNair) are in action for boys volleyball.
Ripon travels to Amador for a non-league tennis match.
The VOL swim schedule gets underway at the outset, with East Union hosting Ripon, Weston Ranch welcoming Manteca and Sierra facing Kimball at home.
