Seventeen of the Manteca area’s top senior baseball and softball players were selected to participate in an all-star event held annually at the University of the Pacific.
The 22nd High School All-Star Baseball-Softball Classic takes place Friday, June 15 at the University of the Pacific. Opening ceremonies for the baseball game starts at 5:45 p.m. at Klein Family Field. Softball will follows at 6:15 at Simoni Field.
Over 30 high schools from the San Joaquin County and surrounding Central Valley areas are represented.
East Union infielders Steven Gigli and Brock Swift will join Weston Ranch pitcher Tyler Scharnow on the South team. All three players were named to the All-Valley Oak League first team.
Manteca High’s Daniel Miramontes, a four-year varsity starter at third base, and Danny Gouveia are on the North roster. Gabe Castellanos and Ernie Garcia, both of Lathrop High, are also on the North along with Ripon’s Jake McCreath and Ripon Christian’s Colby DeVries. DeVries is the reigning MVP for the Southern League after leading the Knights to their first-ever conference championship.
Players from Manteca’s three schools will have a chance to compete as teammates for the South’s softball squad. All-VOL first teamers Kelsey Emerson and Kailee Nuding, both of East Union, are joining forces with former rivals Mia Ramirez of Manteca and Lily Gonzales of Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV finalist Sierra. Ramirez and Gonzales were named to the all-league second team.
Ripon Christian standouts Jessica Myers and Katie Thomas will also compete for the South, while Weston Ranch’s Raileen Romo and Alexandra Alvarado represent the North.
Admission at the gate is $5. Children aged 8 and under are free. Advance tickets are available through local baseball and softball programs. Proceeds will benefit Recreational Sports Club of San Joaquin, Stockton Community Council of United Way and high school sports programs.
