WESTON RANCH — April Seth scored 13 points and hauled in 10 rebounds as the Weston Ranch sophomore girls basketball team improved to 5-4 on the season with a 54-49 home win over Central Catholic Wednesday night.
Trailing 26-19 at the break, the Cougars scratched to within two to start the fourth, then took over in the decisive frame.
“We had 28 turnovers and 15 missed layups in the first have,” Weston Ranch head coach Jenny Bauer said. “But in the second half we only had 10 turnovers, and finished off a few layups.”
Emily Medrios nearly missed her own double-double finishing with nine points and 10 boards, while Martine Bryant had eight points and eight rebounds.
Robyn Sison finished with eight, and Nikki Taylor grabbed nine boards.
The Cougars host Beyer tonight.
Sophomore
Ripon 38, Sierra 36
In Ripon, the T’Wolves outscored the Indians 16-6 in the fourth, but the hole was too deep to climb out of.
“We missed an open 3-pointer at the buzzer,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “We battled back with aggressive play and tough defense, but we need to play a full game of basketball.
“Our sloppy play in the second and third quarters killed us.”
Eddie Andrade paced Sierra with 12, and Grant Widmer had nine.
Jerod Patton netted eight, and Edy Guzman had five.
Sierra 41, Ripon 30
In Ripon, Joseph Berry scored 17 points as the T’Wolves improved to 2-2 overall.
