Sheltons sweep top honors in Southern League

The Ripon Christian Knights are fresh off their fifth straight Sac-Joaquin Section Division V volleyball crown.

With the recent release of the all-Southern League honors, they also earned plenty of accolades.

No surprise that RC’s Tiger Shelton was named coach of the year.

The MVP was none other than his daughter Andie Shelton, who is a sophomore setter for the league-champion Knights (14-0, 26-13).

The 2011 all-league team also consisted of RC seniors Mikeala and Morgan Alger, and junior Brittany Petlansky; junior Khrissy Schellentrager, sophomore Clair Bullis, and senior Trish Middleton from second-place Mariposa (12-2); senior Rebekah Muller and sophomore Sarah Amaral of Turlock Christian (9-5); senior Giulianna Marchini and sophomore Savanna Barnett of LeGrand (9-5); senior Christa McDiffett of Denair (5-9); and senior Denisse Barboza of Delhi (2-12).

Honorable mentions went to Knights’ Kaylie Colyn and Stephanie Vande Pol, both juniors; senior Brook Earling and junior Alex Bauer of Mariposa; sophomore Tiffany Franco and junior Arin Morelli of Turlock Christian; junior Marissa Marchini and sophomore Kinsey Haas of LeGrand; senior Lindsey Stafford and senior Lauren Taylor of Denair; junior Alexis Palomino and senior Cindi Aguilar of Delhi; and junior Gabby Clarke and senior Selene Flores of Gustine.

Valley Oak League

Abby Runte is a senior outside hitter for the VOL champion Sonora Wildcats.

As MVP, she heads the 2011 All-league honors.

Earning first-team all-VOL were East Union sophomore setter Regina Dias and Manteca High junior setter Samantha Morris; senior setter / outside hitter Anneka Pisula, senior libero Madison Pallante, senior outside hitter Gracie Gagnon, and junior middle blocker Maria Armstrong of Sonora; and senior outside hitter Justina Keith, senior middle blocker Domi Powell, and senior outside hitter McKenzie Willett of Oakdale.

Second team consisted of Manteca High junior outside hitter Julia Martinez; Lathrop High senior outside hitter / middle blocker Erica Sanchez; East Union junior outside hitter / middle Erica Sanchez; Weston Ranch junior outside hitter Candisse Griffin and senior outside hitter Desiree Fonoti; and Sierra High junior setter Gabby Olmo.

Rounding out the VOL second team was Sonora senior setter Elisa Amend; Oakdale sophomore outside hitter Kaitlin Van Ryn; and Kimball senior middle / setter Montanaa Bradley and senior setter Christy Brown.

Honorable mentions went to Janel Butler (Lathrop), Sierra Tailes (East Union), Jimi Guibor (Manteca), Allie Walljasper (Sierra), Aolani Etu (Weston Ranch), and Kellie Gratigny (Oakdale).
