The Sierra High girls soccer team took down three-time defending San Joaquin Athletic Association champion Lodi 2-0 Wednesday at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore defender Megan Gonsalves sparked the Timberwolves (1-0-1) early with a breakaway up the right sideline for the nonleague match’s first goal in the 11th minute. Ashley Sohal booted the insurance goal with a penalty kick in the second half.

Goalkeeper Lia Unterholzner had four saves in the shutout.

“Lodi is definitely a good team and is a top Division-I school, so this was a good test for us,” Sierra coach Manuel Pires said.

Sierra next hosts Central Catholic Friday. The contest is tentatively set to kick off at 6:30 p.m.

Manteca 2, Delhi 0

Sialei Manuleleua and Cassie Outlaw each scored for the still-unbeaten Buffaloes (2-0-1). The assists came from Esmeralda Cuenca and Desiree Coria.

Manteca was in full control from start to finish and held a 27-2 advantage in attempted shots.

The team opens its own Buffalo Cup Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. against University of San Francisco. The tournament will take place at Woodward Park.
