Sierra boys qualify for state meet

Tomas Huerta, Alec Araquel and Iris Carrillo of Weston Ranch will be joined by the Sierra boys team in Fresno for the California State Championships after qualifying for the elite meet Saturday in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at the 3.1 mile Willow Hill Cross Country Course in Folsom.
 Huerta was fourth (16 minutes, 44 seconds) and Araquel fifth (16.51) in Division IV boys while Carrillo was fourth (19:03) in the Division IV girls. Arish Bala finished 13th in Division IV boys and led the Sierra contingent of Garet Stone, Sabas Montes, Anthony Sequeira, Jesse Hurtado, Isaias Ghezae and Trevor Ryan to a second-place finish.
 Ripon’s Ellie Waters was 11th (20:32) and teammate Kayla Jacklich 13th (20:55) to lead the Indians to a sixth-place Division IV girls finish along with Avery Thomason, Makeila Hinrichsen, Isabel Sweet, Alayna Swilley and Kate Phelps.  
   Brittany Bloemhof of Ripon Christian was 15th (23:59) and teammate Alysia Templeman (24:00) 16th to lead the Knights contingent of Heidi Tazelaar, Bailey Broker, Miranda Ayala and Anneke De Vries to a sixth-place finish.
 Lathrop’s Vince Prasad was first (12:23) in the Division IV freshman boys race with all lower-level races ran on a 2.3 mile course. Teammate Noel Ojeda was ninth (13:11)
