Sierra High’s swimming program was able to net a pair of victories over West High Wednesday, winning handily in the girls meet 104-65 and slipping past the Wolfpack in boys action, 84-82.

Sierra got a strong individual performance from Marissa Machado, who was victorious in the 200 IM and the 100 breast. Machado was also in on the 200 free relay team’s victory. Teammate Ashley McKinney also landed a pair of wins, taking the 100 free and the 100 back for Sierra. Like Machado, McKinney was also on two Sierra relay wins.

Sophia Ferria won the 50 free and was on the 400 free relay teams win. Rachel Holmstrom won the 100 fly for Sierra along with three relay wins.

The boys team’s victory proved to be nothing like they girls easy win, struggling to fend off West with a two-point victory. Matthew Elliot (200 free; 100 free), Zac DeGroot (200 IM), Ryan Melton (50 free) and Nick Janero (100 fly) all took first place in the meet. Both Janero and DeGroot added second place finishes as well. Sierra swept the top three places in the 200 IM, with Janero and Carlos Castellanos finishing second and third behind DeGroot, respectively.
