TRACY — The Sierra High boys track and field team edged out Kimball 66-64 and is now a frontrunner in the Valley Oak League with a 4-0 record. Kimball won the girls competition 75-58, dropping Sierra to 2-2.
“We knew going into the meet it was going to be close and could go either way,” Sierra coach Ezequiel Ruiz said. “The meet was exciting to watch as we went head to head. We were going back and forth all day on the boys side and it wasn’t decided until the last two events.
“It took a total team effort to be able to win, and the varsity boys rose to the occasion to get a huge win.”
Jesse Hurtado (800, mile), Kyle Wesley (100, triple jump) and Bikram Thiara (110 hurdles, 400) led the Timberwolves with multiple first-place finishes.
Sierra’s frosh-soph boys are also undefeated after their 68-54 victory. Nathan Azevedo won both hurdle events. The frosh-soph girls improved to 3-1 with its 66-35 win. Laica Marte won the 200 and 400.
