Sierra dominates Tokay of Lodi in non-league play

LODI – Sierra took a 25-11 first-quarter lead Wednesday night and allowed host Tokay of Lodi to score just one point in the fourth period on the way to a 74-28 shellacking for the Timberwolves in non-league boys basketball action. 

 “It was a good all-round performance by Sierra for four quarters,” Sierra coach Scott Thomason said. “We had five guys in double figures.”

 John Elijah led the Timberwolves (7-2) with 17 points followed by Kendrick Currey with 13 points and Amari Qadree, Romeo Sesma and Eduardo Jasso with 10 points.

Grant of Sacramento 76, Ripon 37

 MODESTO – The Indians (3-4) ran up against a buzz saw in the form of the Pacers (3-2).

 “It was a classic tale of a really, really good team playing a team maybe not so ready,” Ripon coach Justin Graham said. “Grant had three guys in double figures and they are a very good team – super athletic.”

 Vincent Olmo led the Indians with 15 points.

 Ripon continues the tournament today at 6:30 p.m. against Beyer.

 

Girls basketball

Enochs of Modesto 60, Sierra 43

 The host Timberwolves (5-2) managed just single digits in both the second and third quarters in non-league action.

 “We have to respond better, and we will,” Sierra coach Larissa Founts-Bergerson said. “We will get there. I have a group of fighters.” 

 Natalie Dias led the Timberwolves with a double-double at 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan  Hayter also had 12 points and Inessa Villanueva chipped in 11 points.

Oakdale 64, Ripon Christian 52

 Morgan Van Elderen tallied 17 points for the Knights (4-4) in a losing effort.

 Lexi Hilvers added 12 points for Ripon Christian and Rilee Clark had 11 points behind three 3-pointers. 

 Hilvers (two assists, two blocks) pulled down nine rebounds and Van Elderen eight along with seven assists, two steals and a block.
