Sierra, East Union pick up 1st wins

Matt Rose edged out Weston Ranch freshman Austin Thao for low-medalist honors and helped Sierra tally its first Valley Oak League win of the season 250-288 Thursday at Van Buskirk Golf Course of Stockton.

Rose carded a 6-over 42, while Thao finished a stroke behind the leader. Weston Ranch’s Javier Gomez placed third with a 47.

“(Thao) is going to be a good little golfer, and Javier has improved a lot for them,” Sierra coach Jeff Williams said. “We’re in the process of improving ourselves but we still got a ways to go.”

David Ketner contributed a 48 for the Timberwolves (1-1). Nathaniel Livingston (52), Dillon St. Clair (58) and Matt Murphy (60) followed). Robert West (56), Phillip Orpilla (67) and Mohammed Abdelwahed (75) capped scoring for Weston Ranch.

The Lancers rebounded from their season-opening loss to Central Catholic at Manteca Park Golf Course on Thursday.

Michael Lozano registered a 39 on the par-37 front nine. Nick Rounsaville turned in a solid 40, Taylor Baum chipped in a 44, and Manuel Telles and Ezra Lendhardt capped the team’s score with a 45 and 46, respectively. Chris Maxfield led Kimball with a 44.



Central Catholic 177, Lathrop 259

Christian Guzman shot 38 on the par-35 Dryden Park Golf Course in Modesto.

Others scoring for Lathrop were: Sam Fallon (53), Nick Berndt (54), Matt Fallon (55) and Andrew Lorentz (59).



Oakdale 218, Manteca 320

Four Oakdale players — David Myrtakis, Nathan Lute, Logan Schultz and Josh Barrera — shot 43s in Wednesday’s one-side match held at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

Kyle Howard paced Manteca with a 52. Following suit were Josh Keener (64), Jonathan White (67), Dylan Holt (68) and Jacob Tolbert (69).
