Sierra’s girls tennis team nearly made it a clean sweep Thursday in Sonora, where it routed the Wildcats, 8-1.
Sonora’s lone win came at No. 5 singles, as Alania Brosnan edged out Annie Banks in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-4). The No. 6 match was also competitive, but Rosie Reynolds was able to pull it out for the Timberwolves with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3) win over Victoria Green.
The rest was all Sierra. Vannida Nguyen dominated from the top spot as she blanked Stephanie Hart, 6-0, 6-0. Naomi Nunis (6-2, 6-1), Anna Cardenas (6-1, 6-2) and Maddie Banks (6-2, 6-3) also won in straight sets.
In doubles play, Brenda Padilla and Emma Hunter scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sonora’s top tandem of Hannah Smith and Holly Haughy. Barbara Baxter and Kelsey Wells took the No. 2 match (6-3, 6-1), while Liana Bassett and Simran Thind triumphed at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0).
