The Sierra High wrestling team took third place in the Demolition Day tournament at Stagg High Tuesday.

The Timberwolves were led by Alex Nuanez, who, at 189 pounds, received the most outstanding wrestler in the tournament for upper weights.

He along with Jose Cortez (171) and Aidan Foster (152) were first-place finishers, marking the second time in the young season that the three have each won a tournament championship. On Dec. 18, Nuanez, Cortez and Foster each took first to help the Timberwolves earn the team title in the Lynn Dyche Classic in San Jose.

“Cortez has really turned on the fire,” said Sierra coach Alex Nuanez. “For this being his fourth year of wrestling, he’s made so much improvement.”

Lucas Maestas (215) also had a strong showing, taking second place.

In addition, Alberto Loaiza (125) took fourth while freshman Billy Fishburn (112) also finished in fourth.
