Sierra solid overall in win

Matt Rose led five Sierra players who produced sub-50 scores in a 217-317 win over visiting Weston Ranch on Wednesday.

Rose earned low medalist with his 3-over-par 40 on the front nine of Manteca Park Golf Course. Blake Settlemoir was the runner-up, finishing a stroke behind the leader. Chuck Good carded a 43 from the third group. Chris Schmitz and Isaac Gutierrez added a 44 and 49, respectively. The Timberwolves improved to 2-0.

Daron Carrillo paced Weston Ranch (0-2) with a 50. Frank Thao scored a 55.

“Chuck Good was a big surprise for us today, as well as Isaac Gutierrez,” said Sierra coach Jeff Williams, noting that Gutierrez improved 20 strokes from Tuesday’s round at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.

Kimball 226, Lathrop 265

Reese Maxfield led Kimball (2-0) with the medalist score of 37 on the par-32 French Camp Golf Course.

Sam Fallon spearheaded the Spartans with a 46, and Jeff Fallon turned in a 49.
