Sierra topples CC to keep pace with EU

Sierra remains on the heels of Valley Oak League-leading East Union after notching a decisive 242-271 win over Central Catholic at Manteca Park Golf Course Thursday.

The Timberwolves (8-1), who has only lost to East Union, were led by McKenna Doyle’s 8-over-par 45 on the front nine. She is low medalist for a fourth straight round and has done so in five out of Sierra’s last six outings.

Sierra’s top five finishers ended up besting the best scorer from Central. Vanessa Rodriguez was the runner-up with a 48, Krystal Rayevich and Kayla Wilson each carded 49 and Legacy Barnes added a 51.

Sedona Estacio recorded a 52 for the Raiders.

College

East Union graduate Brittany Ugalino was Delta College’s top finisher in a Big 8 Conference Tournament held at Bennett Valley Golf Club in Santa Rosa on Thursday.

Ugalino carded a 4-over 76, but it wasn’t enough to place the Mustangs (349 points) in the top three. Modesto JC (323), Sierra (328), Butte (331), Sacramento City (344) all finished ahead of Delta. American river (378), Napa (390) and host Santa Rosa (419) followed.
