In the second Valley Oak League cluster met on Wednesday, Sierra’s Christian Gonzalez won the three-mile boys varsity race in 16 minutes, 7.31 seconds at Mistlin Park.
It was a tight pack, and Gonzalez pulled away on the second half to win by eight seconds.
“I went out and did what had to be done,” Gonzalez said. “I stayed with the pack, and then I felt good so I took off.
“I took over on the back stretch of the second lap. There is some nice, flat dirt out there, so you are able to kick it into gear.”
The Timberwolves were the only boys team to place and finished second to Oakdale’s 20 points with 56.
Sierra’s Max Perez finished 11th (17:06.60), Malcolm Nguyen 12th (17:06.69) and Caleb Narayan 15th (17:30.79)
Sierra’s Monse Saavedra finished seventh in the girls race in 19:45.18.
“I felt pretty good,” Saavedra said. “This was a new course to me, and overall I felt pretty strong.
“I heard my competition, and that was pushing me forward to make me go faster, and overall it was a good race.”
Manteca’s Paisley Coenenberg was 10th (20:26.7), East Union’s Alysia Sinclair 11th (20:34.72) and Sierra’s Iris Rodriguez 15th (21:53.38).
Sierra took fourth in the boys frosh-soph 3,200 meters. East Union’s Elijah Galvan was second (11:10.80) and Sierra’s Mateo Cervantez fifth (11:41.60)
Manteca finished fourth in the girls frosh-soph 3,200 with Manteca’s Ariel Anaya finishing second (15:58.54) and Sierra’s Amore’e Zendejas fourth (16:25.01).
Sierra’s Mantoj Grewal was third (12:29.55) in the boys junior varsity 3,200 and East Union’s Serenity Smith first (15:57.14) in the junior varsity girls 3,200.
