SL champs extend unbeaten streak

DELHI — Ripon Christian’s girls soccer team topped off its fifth straight Southern League championship season Wednesday with a 2-1 victory at Delhi.

The Knights (13-0-1, 16-4-2 overall) extended their streak of unbeaten games to 50.

Abby Buitrago netted both of their goals, giving her 37 for the season, ranking her fourth in the Sac-Joaquin Section, according to MaxPreps. Her first goal, scored in the 20th minute, was set up by Emily Manes. The tandem connected again in the 30th minute to give Ripon Christian the lead for good.

Delhi (4-8-1, 4-11-1) didn’t threaten to score the rest of the way, though the Knights came up empty-handed in the second half despite a dominant effort.

The SJS playoffs begin next Wednesday. Brackets will be released Friday.


Ripon 5, Hughson 3

HUGHSON — The two teams exploded for seven goals in the second half of this Trans-Valley League finale.

Ripon (9-2-1, 12-5-1) finishes as the runner-up behind Hilmar. Hughson (7-5, 12-7-2) wound up third.

The Indians led 1-0 at halftime and were buoyed by freshman Tianna Sidtukun’s hat trick. Cindy Alvarez tallied two goals and two assists. Aubree Pelon contributed an assist.

Jessie Lawrence scored twice for the Huskies. Morgan Ehlers scored their other goal.



Delhi 1, Ripon Christian 0

DELHI —Ripon Christian (2-12, 3-19) gave the SL runner-up fits in its final match of the season.

All of the Knights’ seniors had a chance to contribute in a physical match.
