ESCALON — Aubree Pelon assisted three goals before scoring her own in the final minute of the opening half, as the Ripon High girls soccer team rolled to a decisive 7-1 win over Escalon in a Trans-Valley League opener.
Ariana Scholten, Haley Petersen and Devaney Dougherty each had two tallies.
It didn’t take Ripon (1-0, 5-3 overall) long to establish control, as Scholten, Peterson and Dougherty struck in the third, fourth and 12th minutes. Aubree Pelon was assisted by Jaynell Mora on her scoring strike, which put the Indians ahead 5-0 by the midway point.
Kylie Tijero also had an assist, while Ashley Pugh came up with two saves at goal. Ripon racked up 25 shot attempts to Escalon’s four.

STOCKTON — The Cougars (2-0 Valley Oak League, 7-6 overall) bounced back from a 1-3 finish in the Pitman Pride Cup.
Coach Francisco Cisneros called it a “rough but productive tournament” in which Weston Ranch’s losses were decided by a goal. There was little doubt left in Tuesday’s VOL contest.
They were buoyed by a pair of hat tricks. Robert Gonzalez did all of his scoring in the second half, and Elmer Figueroa recorded the other hat trick. Jose Estrada and Edgar Molina pitched in a goal apiece.
Jesus Vega and Bryan Rodrigues contributed two assists apiece, and Kerin Urrutia had one.
The Cougars head to Central Catholic on Thursday before taking the next two weeks off for winter break.
