Soph Buff rolls over Cougars in two

The Manteca High sophomore volleyball team got better as the night went on during a 25-22, 25-13 win over the Weston Ranch Cougars.

The Buffaloes (7-3 Valley Oak League, 10-4 overall) took care of business down the stretch, bouncing back after a close first game to cruise to a 12-point victory in the finale.

Jimi Guibor paced Manteca with eight kills, while teammate Breanne Hatfield came in behind her with six kills.

Jessica Reeder dished out 22 assists, nine service points with three aces, while Erin Kennedy mirrored Reeder with nine service points and three aces. Danielle Deerinck and Jessica Howard both pulled out three digs in the win.

Manteca will look to keep its win streak alive when they meet up with Lancers for a crosstown contest Monday at East Union.

Oakdale 2, East Union 0
The Lancers ran into a tough Oakdale High squad, dropping two games 7-25 and 11-25 in a Valley Oak League loss Wednesday. Kristen Piasecki led East Union with four assits and an ace, while teammate Alison Telles paced the squad with seven digs. Victoria Ramos chipped in a pair of kills and an ace for the Lancers.

East Union (3-8 VOL) will try and get back on the right track when they play host to the Manteca Buffaloes Monday at the Dalben Center.

Sonora 2, Sierra 0
The Wildcats jumped out on Sierra early and never lost focus, wining 25-9 and 25-14 in the two squads Valley Oak League action Wednesday. Stephanie Davis led the Timberwolves with six digs, while teammate Kelly Paredes
chipped in five.

Sierra (4-6 VOL) will look to rebound Monday when they travel to Ceres to take on the Bulldogs.

Lathrop 2, Central Valley 0
The Spartans had little difficulty putting away the Hawks in two games winning 25-11 and 25-23 in the road Valley Oak League match.

Lathrop (4-7 VOL) got strong production from Alayna Asuncion who had five assists, four service points and two kills in thw in, while Eliana Young contributed seven service points, two aces and two  blocks.

Anselma Rodriguez paced the team with 12 service points, four kills and four aces.

Lathrop will look to remain hot as they play host to the Sonora Wildcats Monday.
