Lathrop High’s track and field team swept at all levels in a Valley Oak League double dual it hosted against Weston Ranch and Sonora on Monday.
The varsity boys picked up 80-56 and 85-42 wins over Sonora and Weston Ranch, respectively. The girls decisively downed Sonora 110-21 and beat the Ranch, 92.5-35.5. Lathrop’s frosh-soph teams also triumphed by wide margins.
The Spartans are in the middle of a busy week-long schedule that concludes today at Sierra. Last Thursday they took on Oakdale and competed in the Modesto Junior College Invitational on Saturday.
“Our athletes have been working hard,” second-year coach Krystle Davis said. “They have bought into track and are improving each meet. I’m proud of them.”
Jackie Hiep broke a school record in the long jump, winning with a mark of 16 feet, ½ inch. She also won the 100-meter dash in 12.98 seconds and helped the winning 4x100 relay team set a school record of 50.43.
Sophia Serrano ran the 100 hurdles in 17 seconds flat for another school record. With Sheiree Vasquez and Carina Herrera following Serrano, Lathrop swept both hurdle events.
Winning events for the boys team were: Horatio Venable (100, 11.05), Drew Erwin (mile, 4:52), Jacari Thompson (triple jump, 40-7), Nathan Shelton (high jump, 5-10) and Mykhail Redman (200, 23.52).
The frosh-soph boys overwhelmed Sonora 100-30 and Weston Ranch, 102-9.
Alex Valencia took first in the 100 and 200 and was part of the winning 400 and mile relays. Juan Diaz won all three distance races. Michael Osorno claimed the long jump.
The frosh-soph girls beat Sonora 103-19 and Weston Ranch, 102-5. Delicia Higares (100, 200), Gabriela Grijalva (discus) and Deja Andrades (shot put) led the Spartans.
