LIVINGSTON — Chase Sperbeck helped give the Sierra baseball team a jump start to the season Friday, and the Timberwolves needed the early run-scoring bursts as they held on for a 7-6 win over Livingston.

Trailing 7-2, Livingston plated two runs in each of the final two innings before its comeback fell short.

Sperbeck finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Sierra staked a 5-2 lead after the first two innings, with Sperbeck belting a two-run triple in the second. He then drove in what ended up being an important insurance run in the top of the fourth. Hunter Frisk and J.T. Ortiz-Martinez each added a hit and a RBI, and Diego Duarte hit a sacrifice fly.

Jacob Peterson pitched five innings for the win, with Jared Bagley finishing it out.
