LATHROP — They may spell their names differently, but Saturday at Lathrop High, Edy Guzman and Eddie Andrade appeared awfully similar in one important category: Scoring the basketball.

Guzman (16 points) and Andrade (13 points) led Sierra to a 59-39 blowout of Lathrop.

Maurico Roberts added nine and Grant Widmer chipped in six.

“We were able to jump out to a good lead in the first half, which allowed us to get everyone good minutes,” Sierra head coach Justin Muschott said. “We bothered them with our press a bit and the guys did a good job with their opportunities. We had good balance, with eight of nine players scoring.”

The T’Wolves (6-4 Valley Oak League, 9-10 overall) tackle Sonora next.

Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Sierra High.

Krystal Ruiz added eight for the Spartans (6-5 VOL, 10-11 overall).

“We were only down two at the half,” Lathrop head coach Ed Fang said. “But they came out on fire in the third. We had a few ball-handling errors, but we never gave up.

“I’m proud of the way we fought.”
