Manteca High goes 2-2 in tournament

STOCKTON – Manteca went 2-2 Saturday in the multi-venue Stockton Classic Volleyball Tournament. 

 Playing at Lincoln High, the Buffaloes dropped matches to Del Oro 15-25, 15-25 and Turlock 11-25, 20-25 before rebounding to defeat Escalon 25-17, 25-15 and Elk Grove 25-17, 25-19.

 Kaitlyn Morenzone and Kacy Bolding led the attack for Manteca with Morenzone tallying 44 digs, 36 kills, 23 kills, 15 service points, three aces and three blocks. Bolding put up 33 assists, 23 digs, 20 kills, nine service points and three blocks.

 Kaylee MacDannald added 12 kills, 11 digs, 11 service points and three blocks with Payton Reis (10 kills, seven digs), Olga Perez (13 digs, 13 service points), Emma Kadillak (nine digs, 13 service points, two aces), Kyaira Jacobs (10 digs, four service points) and Julia Moreno (eight digs, six kills) rounding out the Buffaloes attack. 

 Ripon (18-20) was also at Lincoln and went 1-3, defeating Liberty 25-16 , 25-16 and losing to Vacaville 10-25, 15-25; Vista del Lago 22-25, 18-25 and River Valley 26-24, 17-25, 8-15. 

 Deven Stokes led the Indian attack with 38 digs. Rachel Sausedo dished out 47 assists along with 23 digs, six kills and an ace; Mia Van Lewen had 21 digs, 15 kills and four aces with Brooke Kaiser (16 kills, eight digs, four aces), Shannon Johnson (19 assists, 11 kills, three digs), Sydney Thomason (11 kills, two digs, two aces, block), Jordynn Russell (12 kills, eight aces, six digs, block) and Mia Ponsiano (10 digs) making significant contributions. 

 Ripon Christian was at Bear Creek and went 1-3, beating West Campus 17-25, 25-17, 15-10 and losing to El Camino 21-25, 21-25, Strathmore 19-25, 25-23, 12-15 and Douglas 23-25, 20-25.

 Lathrop competed at Edison High and went 1-3, beating Galt 25-10, 25-8, losing to Arcata 21-25, 25-19, 14-16, losing to Bradshaw Christian 25-22, 16-25, 10-15 and to McClatchy 25-22, 23-25, 13-15. 

 Jahsita Fa’alii and Jordan Corner led the Spartans attack.   Chanelle Prado stepped up as a utility player and played four different positions throughout the day with her biggest contribution as setter for matches three and four.  Hailey Hunter played well in the back row in all the matches for Lathrop.
