After sending 11 players to the plate in the third inning Spreckels Park appeared to have a commanding 10-run lead until Sunrise-Stockton scored seven runs in the fifth inning and when the dust settled Spreckels Park held on for a 22-10 win in second-round action of the Section 6 Junior All-Star Tournament on Sunday against at Monticello School hosted by Tracy Little League.

Brock Willenbrink had the most memorable play of the seven-run third for Spreckels Park. Willenbrink laced a routine single with two outs and the bases loaded and by the time the play was over thanks to multiple throwing miscues the bases were empty and Willenbrink (3 for 4, double, three RBI, two runs, walk) came around to score.

Hunter Frisk anchored the middle of the Spreckels Park lineup and led the 13 hit parade going 3 for 5 with four RBI and two runs. Leadoff batter Kenny Wade did his job and got on five times in six at-bats, going 2 for 3 with an RBI, two walks and was hit by a pitch. Rafael Diaz came off the bench for Spreckels Park and went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

With an eye on pitch counts for the rest of the tournament, Spreckels Park used seven pitchers. Craig Durao started for Spreckels Park and pitched into the third inning, giving up one unearned run, one hit, striking out two and walking two.

Spreckels Park pitching hit a rough patch in the fifth inning that allowed Sunrise to score seven runs behind just three hits. Spreckels Park issued five walks in the frame and hit one batter, and two of the three hits were doubles.

Spreckels Park plays in the championship round Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with a win taking the tournament and a loss forcing a winner-take-all game Wednesday.
