Sierra High’s girls swimming team clinched its second straight outright Valley Oak League championship and third in a row overall in its final regular-season dual meet against East Union last year.

This year East Union and Sierra opened the VOL against each other, and both of Sierra’s boys and girls squads made big statements in the rain Friday with nearly identical scores. The boys prevailed 120-49 for their first win of the year, and the girls improved to 3-0 with a 125-44 win.

Sierra swept three events in the girls competition, the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke spearheaded by Christina Ngo (27.59 seconds), Stephanie Davis (1 minute, 2.88 seconds) and Kara Hall (1:12.24), respectively.

Hall also claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:29.53. Megan Viduya was also in on multiple-event victories individually, winning the 500 free (5:46.29) and 100 backstroke (1:07.31).

Taylor Pereza (200 free, 2:24.28) and Niki DeGeorge (100 butterfly, 1:08.03) contributed first-place points.

Sierra also won the 200 medley (Viduya, Hall, Ngo, Davis), 200 free (Davis, Hall, Ngo, Pereza) and 400 free (Amber McKinney, Jones, Pereza, Viduya) relays.

Ben Alfter was East Union’s lone varsity winner of the day, claiming the boys 100 butterfly in 1:06.59.

John Osborn led two 1-2-3 sweeps for Sierra, winning the 200 free (2:11.69) and 100 free (1:01.28). Zach Holmstrom won easily in the 200 IM (2:14.44) and 100 backstroke (1:06.88). Also winning individual events were Ryan Melton (50 free, 0:26.00), Matthew Elliot (500 free, 6:19.88) and James Thomas (100 breaststroke, 1:27.19).

The Timberwolves added the 200 medley (Zac DeGroot, Nick Jamero, Holmstrom, Melton), 200 free (Nathan Ippoiito, Holmstrom, Melton, Osborn) and 400 free (DeGrood, Osborn, Jamero, Ippoiito) to their list of victories.

Sierra continues league action against visiting Lathrop and Weston Ranch next Friday, while East Union hosts Ripon and Patterson.
