TENNIS: Manteca nears 3rd straight VOL title after taming Jags

Manteca is a win away from securing a third straight Valley Oak League championship after blanking Kimball 9-0 Tuesday on Senior Day.
The Buffaloes (10-0, 14-0 overall), who have won 44 consecutive league matches, can clinch at least a share next Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Oakdale and ends the regular season two days later at second-place Central Catholic.
Senior Julia Tang dominated her final regular-season home match, beating Maxine Jaque 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Fellow seniors Makenna Condit (6-0, 6-0) and Navinna Mann (6-2, 6-0) were also victorious at Nos. 4 and 5 singles. Sahuba Kaur (6-1, 6-2), Ellie Kim (6-2, 6-2) and Kerren Zou (6-1, 6-1) added straight-set wins of their own.
No. 2 doubles Yanki Ma and Kalissa Martin did their part in assuring the shutout, coming back to defeat Kate Blumenfeld and Mariya Hinojosa, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6. Noeli Mercado and Melissa Poncini added a 6-4, 6-2 win from the No.1 spot. Isabella Huerta and Danielle Diaz held on for the 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) sweep.

East Union 8, Weston Ranch 1
STOCKTON — The Lancers got revenge and picked up their first win in the process.
East Union No. 1 Isabel Moreno helped set the tone with a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (4) win over Seline Boonen.
The rest were decided in two sets, as Nadia Cardona (6-3, 6-2), Sarah Gloeckler (6-4, 6-0), Karina Schambeck (6-1, 7-6 [6]) and Jenny Garcia (6-1, 6-2) added singles victories. Ekampreet Kaur won at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-3 for Weston Ranch’s lone point.
Winning doubles matches for the Lancers: No.1 Chloe Agueda/Mena Guevara (6-3, 7-5), Ari Pacheco/ Maribel Carranza (6-2, 7-5) and Reema Gill/Alisha Costa (7-6[4], 6-2).

Beyer 7, Lathrop 2
Jocelyn Lat and Amanda Fernandez grinded out a 6-4, 0-6, 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles for Lathrop (2-8).
Bernice Vilches added a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cynthia Madrigal. Darlene Hoang lost the No. 1 singles match 0-6, 4-6 against Gianna Miller.
On Monday, Hoang picked up the Spartans’ lone point in an 8-1 loss to Pacheco on Monday. She won, 6-4, 6-0.
