The rain did little to slow Sierra’s girls soccer team on Tueseday.

The Timberwolves scored eight goals in the first half and had three players with three goals apiece in their 10-1 drubbing of visiting Lathrop.

“The three points (for the win) is what matters the most,” Sierra coach Manuel Pires said. “We’re trying to get into the playoffs so we’re just trying to get as many points as we can get.”

Senior Sydnee Canales had the most points for Sierra with eight, scoring three goals and assisting two others. Naomi Nunis and freshman Kaleigh Doyle also had hat tricks with an assist each. Kyndra Kiser, also a freshman, added a goal and two assists.

Elise Barajas, Raelene Mendieta, Kristyn DeBrouwer and Stephanie Ochoa each contributed an assist.

Overall Sierra (3-2-1 Valley Oak League, 8-4-2 overall) was efficient in its attack, converting on nearly half of its 21 attempts. Emma Broderick and Marissa Scott split time in the goal box and combined for four saves.

Lathrop (2-4, 5-9-1) scored its lone goal in the second half when it was awarded a penalty kick on a handball violation. Sierra Downum took the shot.

The Timberwolves will look to close out an undefeated week against winless Weston Ranch on Thursday, while Lathrop plays host to defending VOL champion Kimball.

East Union 5, Sonora 1

The first-place Lancers (6-0, 8-0) dominated the action on the slick artificial surface of Dunlavy Field on Monday night, with the three Rivera sisters each netting a goal.

The youngest one, freshman Ilena, started East Union off with a goal in the 26th minute. Isela Rivera expanded the Lancers’ 2-0 halftime lead in the 49th minute, and Isabella capped off the barrage in the 66th. Jenna Zuniga (26th minute) and Mandi Kay Roberts (55th minute) also scored.

Rosalia Ravelo, Shelbi Torres and Skyler Tracy buried two goals apiece for East Union. Maria Andrade, Brittany Moneyham and Julia Vigallon each chimed in with one.
