Forrest Tolman won five out of six sets this week to help Sierra High’s boys tennis team improve to 3-1 in the Valley Oak League.
Sierra High’s boys tennis team appears to have righted the ship after opening the Valley Oak League season with a tiebreaking loss to Kimball of Tracy last week.

On Tuesday, the Timberwolves dispatched Oakdale 9-6 on the road before beating Weston Ranch by the same score Thursday at Manteca Regional Tennis Center. The little hot streak comes just in time for its next match against defending champion Manteca High.

On Thursday, Sierra won every set in singles, while Weston Ranch dominated doubles.

Kevin Rausa (6-1, 6-0, 6-1) and Forrest Tolman (6-1, 6-3, 6-0) coasted at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Greg Blockinger edged out Weston Ranch No. 2 Sunkman Singh 7-5 and won his other sets by 6-4 and 6-0 scores.

In doubles play, Weston Ranch’s No. 1 team of Kevin Yamayoshi and Jovincent Legaspi cruised to 10-2 and 10-0 victories. Ray Legar and Carl Legaspi won 10-3 and 10-1.

Against Oakdale, Sierra’s top doubles tandem of Josh Weiland and Joel Boling came up big with 10-1 and 10-3 victories.

Tolman squeaked out a well-earned 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) win over Anton Grenvall in the No. 2 singles match. Tolman’s only loss this week came against Oakdale No. 1 Daniel Dunning, 4-6.

Rausa picked up three more easy wins — 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0.
