The Sierra Timberwolves pounded Stagg High relentlessly, outscoring the Delta Queens in each quarter of a 63-24 win Friday in non-league action.

Jordan Johnson led the Timberwolves with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Alysia Atkins added 18 points. Lia Unterholzner also pulled down seven rebounds for Sierra.

Sierra scored double digits in every quarter, putting up 17 points in both the second and third quarters. Stagg, on the other hand, managed just seven points in the opening quarter and never could reach the total again.

Sierra (5-2) will kick off tournament play in the Consumnes Oaks Tournament Monday with a first-round contest against Ripon High.

Ceres Lion’s Club Tournament
Atwater 55, Manteca 48
After putting together a first half that led to a 12 point halftime lead, the Manteca Buffaloes faltered in the third quarter, getting held to just four points on their way to a 55-48 loss to Atwater High Friday in the Ceres Lion’s Club Tournament.

“It didn’t go the way we wanted it to,” Manteca head coach Andrea Hiatt said. “Our girls know; they understand this is not acceptable.

“I’m most concerned with how we respond, because how we bounce back will really tell the story.”

Atwater helped its cause tremendously, hitting 15-of-19 free throws in the win.

Manteca will culminate tournament play with a matchup with Ceres High at 2:30 p.m. A Buffaloes win coupled with a Bret Harte victory over Atwater would land Manteca the round-robin tournament title.
