For the second consecutive season, standout Juliana Triplett closed the year as a state champion.

Triplett outlasted the 165-pound division, capturing her second consecutive state title with an 8-2 victory over Savanna Nickols of Arcata Saturday at Lemoore High. Triplett rolled through the first day of the CIF Girls State Invitational with three pins and posted two more pins before the title capturing decision over Nickols.

Weston Ranch’s Alyssa Cantu completed an impressive run in just her sophomore season, ending the tournament as the No. 6 seeded wrestler in the state in 165-pound weight class. Cantu suffered through a pair of one-point losses, including her fifth-sixth place match against Santa Ana’s Brenda Perez.

East Union junior Sarah Phillips landed a sixth-place medal finish, losing her initial match to Vanessa Gomez of Northview (13-0) before reeling off five consecutive wins, before running into Gomez again in the consolation semi finals.

Ripon High’s Hailey Owens navigated through the tournament’s final day coping with injuries, yet teamed up with Triplett to earn the tournament’s sixth best team score with 49 points. Owens was the fifth-place finisher in the 108-pound weight class.
