Sierra High clinched the Valley Oak League’s frosh-soph girls soccer title outright with Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Oakdale at Daniel Teicheira Memorial Stadium, but the visiting Mustangs made them work for it.
“Oakdale is an outstanding team that brought out the best in us,” Sierra coach Joe Pires said. “It was one of our better matches.”
The Timberwolves, who improved to 12-0 in league and 18-1 overall, didn’t strike until Niki Walden found the net in the final minute of the first half. Ashley Sohal punched one in for good measure 22 minutes into the second half.
Sierra wraps up the season next week at Sonora Tuesday and again on the road Thursday, April 30 at Weston Ranch.
“Our goal was to win league, now it’s to go undefeated,” Pires said.
Amanda Michaelis, Yajaira Hurtado, Joanna Maxwell, Jazmine Lopez, Megan Klump, Gianna Luchetti and Betzaida Ochoa each contributed a goal.
