TWolves get all the scoring they need in first half

Valley Oak League play opened just fine for the Sierra Timberwolves, taking care of business in their leaue debut against the Oakdale Mustangs 3-1 Tuesday.

Sierra jumped on the Mustangs early, scoring each of its three goals in the first half. Nicholas Gonzalez, Ruben Lopez and Eric Noriega all tallied goals for Sierra in the win.

Defensively, the Timberwolves were as tough as advertised, holding Oakdale in check for the final 40 minutes in a second-half shutout.

Manteca 10, Kimball 0

Everything that could go right did for the Manteca Buffaloes in a whopping 10-0 win over Kimball High in both teams’ league openers.

The Buffaloes (1-0, 10-0) scored six goals in the first half, including three goals in three minutes late in the half.

“We were ready,” Manteca head coach Justin Coeneberg said. “We prepared and said it was to be the toughest game all season. They’re not quite the team they used to be, but we still have to play them tough.”

Marcus Montano finished with a hat trick and teammate Brandon Lanwehr finished with two. Carlos Belmonte, Jesus Ponce and Ramon Rodriguez all dished out two assists.

Sonora 3, Weston Ranch 0

The Wildcats were able to tame the visiting Cougars, stopping Weston Ranch with a shutout Tuesday in the VOL opener.

Things don’t get any easier for the Cougars as they face the undefeated Manteca Buffaloes Thursday in league action.

Frosh-Soph

Weston Ranch 8, Sonora

The Cougars got it going quickly in Sonora, getting a hat trick from Kevin Medina and a pair of goals from Joseph Mayora in the blowout.

Carlos Vargas, Deon Coffey and Francisco Monroy all netted goals for the Cougars.

Sierra 6, Oakdale 3

Sierra used a two goal performance from Cesar Martinez to push past the Oakdlae Mustangs in the league openers for both teams.

The challenge won’t get any easier for the Timberwolves Thursday, as they play the East Union Lancers.

East Union 4, Lathrop 2

East Union was able to have a positive impression in the VOL opener, beating the host Lathrop Spartans 4-2 Thursday in VOL play.

East Union will meet up with Sierra for league action Thursday, while Lathrop will host the Sonora Wildcats.
