Sierra pushed defending Valley Oak League champion Oakdale to five sets, splitting the first two 14-25, 30-28, 15-25, 25-17 before losing the finale 5-15 to open VOL play Monday at Sierra High.
Lindsey Walljasper had five blocks and four kills for the Timberwolves (0-1 VOL, 3-6). Maria Lopez added six kills, Kylie Matteroli had five kills and Emma Brierly dished out 19 assists.
The Mustangs improve to 1-0, 3-6.

The Buffaloes improved to 3-2 in the VOL and recorded their best nine-hole score of the season Monday at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Alyssa Gutierrez was low medalist with a 50. Bella Gonzales and Taylor Reed each turned in a 51. Kylee Eberle added a 53, and Meghan Garlets scored a 55. Individual league points all went to Manteca.
Sydney Grant carded a 73 to lead Weston Ranch.

Natalie Dias had three blocks and two kills for Sierra and Felicia La Quaglia had two aces.

The Timberwolves split the first two sets 15-25, 25-19 and dropped the third, 6-15.
Inessa Villanueva had three aces, three hits and a kill for Sierra. Chloe Sabado added three digs, two assists and two aces and Brooklyn Dias had a kill.
