VOLLEYBALL: BUFFS TRAMPLE LANCERS
East Union’s lone lead short-lived as Manteca sweeps
Bulletin volleyball 2018
With Kaylee MacDannald looking on, Manteca's Payton Reis looks to block the attack of East Union's Alexus Surnip (00).

Manteca did not trail until the third set, and then it was not for long as the Buffaloes swept East Union 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 Thursday in Valley Oak League action at Winter Gym.
“We got in a good rhythm,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “We maybe had some regrouping moments in the third set but we got that done and played through. It was a good effort for us. Defensively, serve receive — just covering and moving.”
Kacy Bolding and Payton Reis dominated the net for the Buffaloes (4-1 VOL, 12-3 overall) and both gave credit to their setter, Kaitlyn Morenzone (17 assists, 11 service points, six digs, five kills and three aces).
“It’s all credit due to Kaitlyn (Morenzone),” Kacy Bolding said. “She was able to spread it out so they wouldn’t be able to double team us.
“Moving the ball around helps us a lot.”
Bolding had nine kills, nine assists, four digs and three service points and Reis finished with eight kills and three digs.
“It was a good team win,” Reis said. “It all starts with Kaitlyn and her getting the ball to us.”
Abbey Kadillak (11 digs, three service points), Emma Kadillak (seven digs, six service points), Olga Perez (nine service points, eight digs), Kaylee MacDannald (nine service points, three blocks, two kills, two digs) and Karlie Spohn (four digs, three blocks, kill) rounded out the Manteca attack.
The Lancers (2-3, 6-6) took their first lead of the match in the third set when Savannah Lebarre (10 kills, six digs, ace) blasted a kill to go ahead 9-8. After two ties, the Buffaloes regained the lead on a net violation at 16-15 and did not trail again.
“They are a good team,” Kevin Bolding said.” They didn’t give up and that’s a credit to them. We had to play our ‘A’ game — we couldn’t afford not to. Everyone did a good job for us.”
East Union battled for three ties in the first set with the last one being at 14-14 before Manteca ended the game on an 11-5 run.
“We came out ready to play,” Lancers coach Chelsea Herrera said. “Then we had a few calls that didn’t go our way and that deflated us.”
Alexus Surnip had 19 assists, three digs and two kills for East Union. Kiana Day added seven kills, Jaidyn Valencia had four kills and two blocks and Angelica Mercado made five digs and a kill.
