VOLLEYBALL: Lathrop takes care of Beyer to stay unbeaten in WAC

 Lathrop’s boys volleyball team swept one of its chief rivals in the Western Athletic Conference on Thursday, downing Beyer at home, 25-21, 25-11, 25-20.

The Spartans (10-0 WAC, 19-5 overall) were led by senior setter Alexander Vere’s 31 assists, two kills and two aces. Libero Charles Reyes produced 19 digs, five assists and an ace.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i powered the attack with 17 kills and two aces to go with four digs and a solo block. Marco Palomares contributed with 10 kills, two blocks and five digs. Peter Respicio chipped in six kills and three digs.

Beyer slipped to 7-3 in WAC play. Lathrop hosts Grace Davis next Tuesday.


Manteca 3, Elk Grove 0

The Buffaloes (13-2) went on the road for the non-league match and came away victorious, 26-24, 25-17, 25-21.

Aidan Patton led Manteca’s balanced attack with eight kills, and fellow middle Rob Hevener had four kills but also made an impact as a blocker.

Julio Mateo and Micah Crawford added seven and six kills, respectively. Setter Mark Bondoc netted 23 assists and 13 digs.


JV boys volleyball

Lathrop 2, Beyer 0

Lathrop took care of business with the 25-15, 25-18 win.

Elias Medel led the way with four kills, three aces and three digs. Gurmukh Singh added three kills, four aces and two solo blocks.

Diego Alvarez and Cayden Phaing pitched in three kills apiece. Josh Ramirez paced the defense with 11 digs, and Mario Luna handed out 15 assists.


Elk Grove 2, Manteca 0

Manteca came up short, 25-27, 15-25.

Hayden Silva led the Buffaloes’ offense with 10 assists and three kills. Dennen Loureiro fired five kills, while Alex Khizeran picked up 10 digs.
