VOLLEYBALL: Manteca, East Union prevail in VOL openers

Manteca’s girls volleyball team opened Valley Oak League play Thursday with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-10 sweep of visiting Patterson.

Saniyah Anthony and Ariceli Castillo spearheaded the attack with 10 kills apiece. Anthony also had three blocks, and Castillo served three aces.

Riley Ward facilitated the offense, finishing with 24 assists. Nicole Ayala led the defense with 12 digs to go with three aces. Amil Gaskins added four blocks to the defense. Peyton McDonald chipped in four kills and seven blocks.

The Buffaloes (1-0 VOL, 6-3 overall) heads across town to face Sierra next Tuesday.


East Union 3, Mountain House 1

The Lancers (1-0, 3-2) outlasted the VOL newcomer on the road, 30-28, 22-25, 25-16, 25-11.

Katelyn Trevino tallied 15 kills, four aces and two blocks for EU. Meritiana Luani produced nine kills, 15 digs and two aces. Marcella Carranza handed out 20 assists and served six points.

Giselle Velazquez collected 14 digs. Lilyan Frye chimed in with six kills, three blocks and four aces.


Ripon 3, Pitman 2

Ripon moved to 11-1 with the impressive 21-25, 24-26, 25-14, 25-21, 15-3 come-from-behind win.

Adrianna Dorn punished the Pride (5-2) with 24 kills, three aces and two solo stuffs. Jorie Eskes chimed in with 19 kills and four blocks. Katelyn Bogetti led the attack with 40 assists.

Shayla McKeon contributed six kills and four blocks. Olivia Newman had three kills and four blocks, while Alayna Sprinkle served five aces.


East Union 3, Lincoln 1

Katelyn Trevino registered 13 kills and five aces in the non-league match Wednesday, helping the Lancers improve to 2-2 with the 25-17, 15-25, 25-18, 25-20 victory.

Meritiana Luani contributed nine kills, eight digs and three aces. Marcella Carranza delivered 25 assists. Shebra Rezaye dominated the net for five blocks along with three kills.


Lathrop 3, Mountain House 0

The Spartans (3-1) took care of their former Western Athletic Conference rival on the road Wednesday, sweeping 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

Elizabeth Andrade was an all-around standout with 16 kills, 11 digs and five aces. Setter Ayden Petroff divvied out 25 assists to go with five digs and four aces.

Justine Mabutas led the defense with 15 digs. Erin Chunn contributed seven kills and three digs.


JV girls volleyball

Manteca 2, Patterson 0

Madeline Nunes fired eight aces, as the Buffaloes coasted, 25-16, 25-5.

Maylea Sims anchored the attack with 10 assists and five kills. Arvein Pabla added five kills and three aces. Annika Burns chipped in four assists and two blocks.


East Union 2, Mountain House 0

East Union (1-0, VOL, 4-1 overall) edged out the Mustangs, 25-20, 25-22.

Alondra Espinoza and Emily Pires (six digs) pounded five kills apiece. Lulu Dayeh set 14 assists and had two kills. Elle Baluyut registered 10 digs.


Mountain House 2, Lathrop 0

Lathrop was downed, 22-25, 18-25.

Vivianna Salcedo produced 11 assists, four digs and two aces. Rosemary Libaste picked up 13 digs. Araya Carson collected six kills and four digs. Brianna Valencia had five digs to go with a pair of kills. Taylor Johnwell came up with two blocks.


Ripon 2, Pitman 0

Brooklyn Brown and Payton Abbott rapped five kills apiece, as the Indians took care of business, 25-10, 25-16.

Samantha Loretelli contributed four kills. Kendall Burrow added three aces and three digs.


Frosh girls volleyball

Manteca 2, Patterson 0

Manteca rolled to the 25-4, 25-13 victory.

Katie Anderson racked up eight service points, five of which went for aces. She also had three kills and three digs.

Jill DeCosta Aldape turned in four assists and three aces. Ashley Magud added three aces and two kills.


Mountain House 2, East Union 1

Camille Christensen and Kadence Rossi each had three kills, but the Lancers (0-1, 1-4) dropped the VOL opener, 26-24, 18-25, 7-15.

Maria Kalladanthyil netted four assists and eight service points.


Mountain House 2, Lathrop 1

The Spartans dropped a 26-28, 25-20, 13-15 heartbreaker.

Audrina Fisher scored seven kills and six aces. Cassidy Fa’ali’i tallied six assists, three aces and two kills. Lilyana Murillo had eight digs.

Andrea Lemus contributed four kills and four digs. Irshbir Bisla chipped in three kills and a solo block.
