Oakdale High didn’t give visiting Manteca’s volleyball team very many opportunities to earn its points.
Simply outmatched, Manteca was swept (8-25, 10-25, 17-25) in dominating fashion Thursday.
“They are a solid team,” Manteca coach Tim Horning said of Oakdale, which improved to 3-0 in the Valley Oak League and 11-2 overall.
“My setter (Samantha Morris) had only seven assists tonight compared to 37 in a four-game match the other night. That gives you an idea of how in control Oakdale was.”
With the Mustangs on point in every facet, Myklyn Balmut, Erin Kennedy and Julia Martinez were limited to two kills each to share team-high honors. Jessica Howard, Nicole Magnuson and Morris finished with three digs apiece.
Manteca (1-2, 3-8) looks to get back on track next Tuesday when it hosts intra-city foe Sierra.
Sonora 3, Weston Ranch 0
The Wildcats (3-0, 16-6) made it a short trip to Weston Ranch, leaving with an easy sweep (25-4, 25-14, 25-23). Gracia Gagnon produced 13 kills and four aces to lead Sonora.
Niki Rayray picked up 25 digs, and Miranda Holmes had eight blocks for the Cougars (1-2, 5-4).
Kimball 3, East Union 2
In Tracy, the Lancers (2-1, 5-4) were dealt their first league loss by second-year varsity Kimball.
Game scores were: 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-27, 8-15. Additional information was not available as of press time.
Sophomore
Sonora 2, Weston Ranch 0
Vanessa Contreras finished with four kills and three blocks for the Cougars, who fell 17-25, 10-25.
Rowena Oreiro chipped in with eight digs, and Alex Marapao six assists.
