Weston Ranch baseball crushes McNair

STOCKTON — Manuel Rubio pitched three innings and went 3 for 4 with three runs at the plate, helping Weston Ranch complete a series sweep of visiting McNair with a 13-3 six-inning win Thursday.

The Cougars (7-3) have won five of their last six contests.

McNair (2-4) landed the first blow, plating three runs in the top of the second. Weston Ranch answered with two in the third and broke it open with nine in the fourth.

Sophomore Amier Bowen pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the win, and Carlos Drain threw the sixth. 

“We came out a little slow but figured it out,” Weston Ranch coach David Hager said. “In the fourth inning it really came together for us. Manuel struggled a little bit from the mound but battled through three innings, and Bowen competed well and threw strikes. Defensively we played very well.”

Gabriel Ramos (double, run) and James Peavey (two runs) both went 2 for 3. 

 

Buhach Colony 5, Sierra 2

ATWATER — The Thunder (4-2-1) took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Christian Witt and Seth Reyes. Dhelahn Tilghman and Reyes each went 3 for 4 for Buhach Colony.

Abe Velasco drove in Jacob Peterson with a double in the second inning to give the Timberwolves (4-4) an early lead. In the third, Peterson drove in Chase Sperbeck and ended up 2 for 4.

 

GOLF

Ripon 232, Hilmar DQ

RIPON — The Indians improved to 3-0, winning their third straight match in as many days behind Nico Illardi’s 7-over 42 at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club.

Justin Brito was the runner-up with a 43. Luis Candido (48), Rhet Herrin (48) and Garrett Avila (51) were other scorers for Ripon. Clay Harden led Hilmar with a 47.

 

Oakdale 204, Manteca 296

OAKDALE — The inexperienced Buffaloes (0-2 Valley Oak League) exceeded the expectations of coach Dave Fontanilla at Oakdale Country Club.

Ruben Hurtado led the way with a 47, and Marc Buenrostro had a 59. 

 

Central Catholic 187, Lathrop DQ

MODESTO — Lathrop’s Christian Guzman tied for second place with a 1-over 36 at Modesto Municipal Golf Course.

Luke Marcello added a 54 for the Spartans. Central Catholic’s Matt Burks was low medalist with a 35 and was one of five Raiders to finish under 40.

 

Volleyball

East Union 3, Atwater 0

ATWATER – The Lancers swept the Falcons 25-22, 25-20 25-15 in non-league action.

Agustin Castaneda had his serve down for East Union, pounding out 15 aces. Grant Silva added eight kills and Jack Weaver had 13 assists. 

 

Manteca 3, Chavez 1

STOCKTON — Trailing 24-18 in the fourth game, Manteca’s Rovick Hombrebueno served the final eight points to help the Buffaloes (3-2) escape with the win.

Scores for the first three sets were 28-26, 25-18, 18-25.

Kylan Chandler, Jonathan Borres, Tydus Verhoeven, Kyle Reis, Cameron Reis and Oswaldo Garcia were among the standouts.
