Manteca had two game-point opportunities in an attempt to force a fifth set against visiting Weston Ranch but came up short in a 20-25, 25-27, 25-16, 30-32 defeat Wednesday.

“Every time you’d think (the clinching point) was going down it came right back up,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “It was crazy. We had our chances to extend it but just couldn’t get over that last hump. I said all along that Weston Ranch is a good team. You can’t go by their record.”

The last time these two teams squared off, Manteca won a thrilling five-game match with each set being decided by no more than three points.
