Weston Ranch uses tiebreak to beat EU

It came down to a tiebreaker, but the Weston Ranch girls tennis team was able to squeak out a victory against intradistrict rival East Union 5-4 Thursday in Valley Oak League action.

East Union’s Araceli Gonzalez lost to Jaz Kaur 2-6, 6-6, 5-7; Vanessa Hamilton lost to April Vang 2-6, 3-6; Mandi Roberts beat Chyanne Sousyphan 6-1, 6-2; Fabiola Magana beat Eileen Velasquez 7-5, 6-2; Angelica Ortiz lost to Rubi Sanchez 1-6, 2-6;and Natalie Karim beat Alyssa Ryan 6-3 and 6-4.

In doubles action, Weston Ranch’s Jasdeep Hothi/Vi Troung defeated the Lancers’ Margarita Navarrete/Patricia Tajii 6-4, 6-2 while East Union rebounded with its No. 2 Clarissa Lecce/Marilyn Civil to beat Rashmeet Toger/Kim Phan 6-4, 6-0.The final Lancers double team of Cynthia Civil/Karla Bender fell to Sandra Chacon/Deepa Singh 2-6, 3-6.

 “I’m proud of my girls for trying hard but in the end I’m disappointed because we had that exact same score against Kimball,” East Union head coach Sarah Sanguinetti said. “I think as a team we’re meshing well together but at the same time I see things that we need to work on.”

Sierra 7, Lathrop 2

Sierra High’s singles players wasted no time in dispatching the Lathrop Spartans on Thursday.

Claire Banks defeated Deja Andrades 6-0, 6-0; Simaran Thind defeated Danielle Osoteo 6-2, 6-1; Kelly Bacon fell to Anne Marie Barber 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (7-3); Katrina Malabamam defeated Kim Victora 7-4, 6-2, 6-2; Mia Perez beat Betrie Vilchos 6-0 6-4. Carly Cunial lost to Eden Baca 7-5, 3-6, 2-6.

In doubles Maria Vasquez/Krista Harris defeated Angela Alegado/Erica Gorligh 6-3, 6-4; Mariah Young/ Louisa Hunter beat Maya Ortiz/Leslie Barazza 6-3, 6-1; Viviana Castro/Alejandra Pacheco defeated Tala Alkahtib/Marissa Driseno, 6-2 and 6-2. /

The victory improves Sierra’s record to 2-4 and they will travel to Tracy to take on Kimball on Tuesday.

Manteca 8, Kimball 1

Elizabeth Tolbert had her best match of the season to be Maxine Jacque 6-4, 6-2 on lead the Buffaloes (6-1 VOL, 7-1 overall) to a convincing VOL win.

Ellen Chang defeated Katie Inderbitzin for the lone Jaguars victory.

Koryn Menasco beat Amber quiambao 6-0, 6-2; Gladis Sandoval beat Tiffany Dequit 6-2, 6-1 followed by straight sets 6-0, 6-0 wins for Taylor Corona over Samantha Nguyen and Julia Tang over Janesa Moser 6-0, 6-0

Manteca continued its domination in doubles competition with Rav Dillon / Jessica Tang beating Maddy Dabandon/Rachel Sampayan 6-2, 6-2; Makenna Condit /Navina Mann downing Aman/ Budwal 7-5, 6-2 and Ivy Benson / Julianne Eavenson defeating Sheryl Ravi /Sabrina Akbarzodeh 6-1, 7-5.

The Buffaloes complete the first half of league Tuesday against Oakdale.
